THE CRICKET MATCH AT CHRISTCHRUCH.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Chbistchuroh, Friday. It rained this morning, postponing play till twelve o'clock, and making the ground dead. ' In the afternoon the sun came oat, and the weather was beautiful, bringing a large I number of spectators down. About 2000 must have been present. Wilding and Pocook took up the bowling. ' Butler went on in the same lively fashion he had begun, and Sams continued his stonewalling tactics. The latter waa missed in the sjips by Barnes, a hard chance, but the big Midlander made no mistake when Butler sent one high in the air toward* him. : Mansfield betrayed an inclination to stay, and 15 runs were slowly scored. Then "Wilding managed to clean bowl Mansfield at 219. The wicket-keeper next came into operation, and put a sudden end '. to the game by stumping Sams and Kirby in quick succession, the latter having scored nothing. A new wicket was. got. ready, for the; Canterbury in. nings, and a very true one it proved. Longden waa sent iu first with Millton. Kendall and Mansfield were the trandlers. Longden was a disappointment, as a full pitched one from Mansfield quickly settled his career. The ever-reliable Watson followed. When lunoh time intervened 88 balls had ouly produced 10 runs. Lunch seemed, to give the batsmen more confidence. Millton got hold ot one to leg from Mansfield', and Watson scored several times off him, which brought Hale on. ■ Watson then began to hit very hard. Kendall at last found a weak point in Millton'd armour, and the stonewaller had to leave. He was one hour »nd three-quarters at the wickets for 8 runs. Cotteriil came in and made a big hit for 4, but just as he peemed set he snicked one from Mansfield into the wicketkeeper's hands. Dudney then joined Watson. Kendall and Mansfield were both changed in the hopes of separating the men, Sidebottom and Kirby taking their places. Watson added some neat oats to his score, one of which, sent the ball to the fence, and a drive off Kirby's brought.the 100 up. Burns replaced Kirby, and had the luck to send in a shooter, which Dudney played into his wicket—four for 111, Wilding began by some hard drives, but lost his wicket rather foolishly, just as he had reached the double figures, by trying to pull Mansfield round to the on. Ashby, as was expected, did not stay long, Butler catching him in the long field. Pocock very unluckily got a trimmer from Kendall before he had got his eye in, and when he returned 'to the pavilion the" board showed 7 for 147—just the number required to savethe follow on. ..Barnes played steadily, and caused Mansfield to be changed for Hale, whom he hit well to leg for 4; but the latter, in an over or two later, bowled him with a very simple ball. Watson, after Dudney departed, scored more freely. At ten minutes to time Fowke "went in, with instructions to try and play out time. The stumps-were drawn with the score at 169 for S wickets. The Tasmanians gained much applause by their neat .fielding. The match will almost certainly be played right out on Monday. The following is the score :—
