THE GOLDFIELDS.

TE AROHA MINES.

[by teixgbaph.—own correspondents.] ■'','. Tβ Aroha, Friday evening. Tjqeee is no fresh. mining news 'of any importance to-day, steady work being the order of the week. The Low Level cross-cut for the New Find, No. 2 reef, is now in about 90' feet. At 200' feet the reef is expected to be cat, and should the ground continue as favourable for driving as it has been, .another month should see it in hand. Very great interest is baing taken' in* - the driving of this adit, as it will -be the lowest level on the field. The battery continues steadily crushing for the New Find, Colonist, and Premier. The thirteen extra berdaps just put up will be eet in motion on Monday, The weather is extremely wet and wintry,. heavy rain having fallen all last night and to-day. Thames, Friday.evening. : SnARKMARKEr.—Dart, sellers 4b 6d, buyers 4a; Deep Level Gross, 3s 3d; sellers 3s 3d, buyers 3s 3d ;.Imperial, ..17s, 18s, 17s 6d, sellers 17s 6d, buyers 17s; Low Level, Bd, sellers Bd, buyers 7d ; Colonist, 5s 6d, sellers 5s 6d, buyers Ss 3d ; Premier, sellers 4s 6d; Waioronßomai, sellers Iβ. .. .' i . ■ Imperial.--The winze is down 56 feet. Some pounds of quartz containing blotches of gold, and good enough to be classed as picked stone-were obtained to-day. ;: Deep level Cross.—The. men resume work at the 640-feet level on. Monday. . .; Queen of 'Beaoty.t-t-A leader,:',about .a foot, of likely character.ie to hand at. the; No. 10 level. ' .

Queen of Bbautv.—The following report was Teceived yesterday:—No. 8, Vanguard cross-cut: The contractors in this cross-cut are making, good progress through an excellent class of .country. The croas-reef continues to ran in the same direction. They have driven about 60 feet of their contract. No. 9, No. 1 reef: The monkey drive I have stopped, and it proves that the No. 1 reef, is a, strong , body of quartz of fair chrushing quality. From the end of the small drive to the end of the seaward drive on the level is fully 30 feet, and its average size is from 20 inches to 12 inches in thickness. Wβ started to sink the winze on Tuesday, and it is: down now about 16 feet. The reef maintains its uniform oharacter. I have ascertained that in the upper portion of the No. 1 reef, the run of gold, instead of being on the elide as is usual, is some 36 feet seaward of it. No. 10 : Since repotting cutting.the reef, it was" cut off again by , the slide, but after some difficulty, we have again picked it up, and are driving on it seaward. The quartz looks equally as well as at No.. 9, and I believe it -will inarease-in size by driving on it. The sandstone is of a good kindly character, arid there is a branch of quartz coming into the reef, and it will junction about ten feet ahead of the present face. The slide has heaved a great deal more, seaward than ;where, the No.*2 reef junotionedwith it, and it lays veryiflat, and this has thrown us into an unsettled country, which will be remedied in a fewfeet of driving. •; - : . • - '■
