A Note has been 'addressed by the Egyptian Government to the British Foreign Minister, in which a demand is made for England : s assistance in the Soudan. The Note states that, unless this be accorded, the Egyptian Government will be compelled to relinquish to Turkey the eastern portion of the Soudan, and concentrate its troops in Egypt proper, and thus be able to dispense with the British army of occupation. Duke of Westminster, 2427 tons, from Brisbane (November 6), has run ashore at the Isle of Wight, and is in a critical position.
