Barnaby at once went to the front, and kept the lead until opposite the stand, when Statesman went up, and the pair raced together for some distance. Coming into the straight Molly Bawn closed on the leaders, and from that point to the finish was never in doubt, Molly Bawn winning By two lengths from Barnaby, Statesman being a fair third. I The lot wero let go to a very uneven start, Barney getting all the worst of it. Karera got away with the lead, followed closely by Hineura, Matipo, arid Magician. Whenconiing into the straight the latter came through his horseß in fine style and won easily, Hineura being second, and Karera third. £300 in the totalisator; £112 on the winner. A protest was entered against Magician on the ground that he had previously won an advertised race of £30, but the stewards disallowed the protest.
