THE COLLEGE LECTURES.
TO THK EDITOR. Sib,—On the occasion of Professor Thomas' lecture, Dr. Pnrchas said the public had no conception of the value of the lectures at the "University College, and that they were available at a very small fee. This may be, but educated colonists have neither the time nor the money to afford. In Dunedin one of the Professors has been giving lectures on, Saturday to teachers. In Canterbury on& of the Professors has been preparing "Lessons for Teachers;" and in Auckland, lam told that if ten teachers come forward for any course they can be admitted at a reduced rate. It appears, tb>n, that the few students ■who have an interest in going will go, and. that the public will be benefitted indirectly, while in future years the teachers here, aa elsewhere, will come in for a'share of the crumbs that fall from the professorial tables,, and we will probably :have a Saturday course of lectures' oh '.'English. Literature,** "Chemistry," "Biology,"or "Physios."—l am, Sec, . :'l : :. :i - : - ' ' XlßfcVjV
