A special meeting of the East Hamiltoa School Committee was held last night, in : reference to High School matters. Great dissatisfaction had been expressed by many of the parents of the yonng Udies attending ; the school at recent alterations made by the Inspector, whereby they werci compelled, in ■ some of their studies, to tak<! their place in v the classes of the district school. The i parents would not have objected in the case [" of boys, bat not unnaturally did so in that o{ : girls of the ages of sixteen and seventeen, oE ? whom the High School ib mainly composed, ? ! and a persistence in the change made would K probably have broken up the High School V altogether. Tho alteration had evidently ; been made to economise teaching power, but \" the Inspector having heard that it was likelj !-■ to damage the High. School, wrote to the : teaehere—Messrs. Stevene und Bindon-~ t stating that the rule would net be arbitrarily (■; enforced. Ihe teachers then referred the t matter to the committee. There only were ''*• present at last night's meeting, Messrs. r Von Sturmer (Chairman), Bay, and Coch- I rane. It was resolved that a change '■" back to the old practice of keeping the High !"' School classes ehould be made. The com- fmittee, however, suggested tiat as such plan. [■ must necessarily cause extm work to the r. teachers, and that as the atbjndance on the \- district school was increasing, and still likely (• to increase as the fine weather sets in, aa 1 additional pupil teacher should be appointed. \: Aβ no tenders have been received for clear* > ing and fencing the five acres at the Lake, ; and building the jetty intended for the benefit of the Rowing Club, the time for receiving ; tenders has been extended to Monday next, r Cambridge, Wednesday. i Mr. J. B. Whyte, in. reply to a further < application urging upnn the Government the i desirability of going on at once with the ! Cambridge railway, has received a telegram \ from the Hon. Mr.-Johnston, saying "ten- i dera for plate-laying, Cambridge railway, will I be out in a tew days." ;
