[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The new Foresters' Hall was opened laat night with a banquet, at which the Mayor was present. Paet Chief Ranger Abner King occupied the chair. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. It is understood that His Excellency will make a visit to Nelaon daring the present month. The Supreme Court was occupied all day in hearing a charge against Thomas M n - Lelland, a local bootmaker, for receiving a quantity of boot uppers from two youths, knowing them to have been stolen. The jury retired, and the foreman intimated the probability of their not agreeing. McLelland has b.-en found guilty, Sentence was deferred until Monday. KUMARA, Wednesday. Mr. William Redmond, M.P., arrived here from Greytnouth on Monday, when he received an address, and lectured the same evening to a large au-'-icuce. He takes his departure this afternoon for Hukitika, where helec.ures to-night.
TIMARD, Wednesday. For some time past the counties of Geraldine and Asnburton have beeu at loggerheads over the payment for repairs totheftangitata bridge, costing over £6000. The work was oarricd out by the Ashburton county in a atyle objested to by the Gerali'ine county, and the latter refused for a considerable time to pay their half of the cost. The Ashburton county lately resolved to take v legal proceedings against Genuine, but at a meeting of the latter Council, to-day two enginsers appointed reported that the bridge was all that could be desired, and they decided to pay up their share without loss of time, £1500 being offered on account. DUNEDIN,' Wednesday. It is expected that shortly after Edwards and Scott beginning their twenty-four hours' walking match on Friday night, the Kev. Mr. Byng will be present, and say a few words appropriate to the occasion referring to moral and physical training. A deputation waited on the Hon. Mr. Dick to ask that the industrial school children might be allowed out on parole to go to church, not in a -body, but mixing with various congregations indiscriminately. The Hon. Mr. Dick promised to consult the master of the school on the subject. The Amateur Athletic Club has now 255 members. A large dwelling-house at Kaitangata, the property of Mrs. Milne, was burned down, with almost the whole of contents, this morning. It is understood that there was a policy on it in the Norwich Union for. £500, but the less will considerably exceed this Bum.
