RUMOURED MINISTERIAL CHANGES.
[by telegraph.—ows cokeesfosdeot.] ■ Wellington, Friday. I KOTioE a report circulating in various" papers that Mr. Justice Johnston will retire from fhie Bench next month, and will be succeeded by Mr. Conblly, the present Attorney-Gcnoral, or by Mr. Whitaker, the late Premier. lamin a position to give an authoritative denial to this report in all its shapes.' In the first place, Mr. Justine Johnston has no idea of resigning; in the second place, Mr. Whifciker, being a member of the Legislative Council, but no longer Attorney-General, is disqualified by the law - T and thirdly, Mr. Conolly although, being Attorney-&ent>ral, his membership of Parlia- ; ment would not disqualify him, has not the remotest intention of seeking a seat on Judicial; Bench. There is reason to believe that tho whole 'story is merely got up ; n Mailboro , by Mr. Conolly'a political opponents, with the obj-ct o* damaging him Viuh the constituents, and so endangering his chances of re-election next year.
