N'2W Zealand Hehald Office. Thursday evening. Business in the import market during the' last week has been exceedingly quiet, little or nothing doing. Some attention has been drawn to the proposed sale of the Surrey Hills Estate, owing to tho planß of the proposed township being condemned. However, the property for the present has been withdrawn, with a. view of preparing fresh plans. There is no doubt the property, if well and judiciously laid out, will prove to be one of the most important land sales that has been held lieie for many years. The kauri gum market iB atill in the same unsatisfactory state as quoted last week. Buyers still Bhowing a disinclination to do business, except for the very best sorts. Prices remain unaltered. In dairy produce we have no alteration to note. Butter remains at lOd per lb. and eg?s 8d per do:',, wholesale. Tho flour market still continues brisk, but without any advance in prices. Now that the fruit season is approaching, we would again urge upon growers the importance taking greater care in the packing of their fruit for market. There can be but little question that the low prices obtained for green fruit can only be laid at the door of the very indifferent condition in which it is receivsd. Bough boxes packed tightly with peaches, plums, or other soft fruit, cannot bo expected to reach the market in a satisfactory state, especially when the rough handling it is sure to receive at the hands of the carriers is considered. It is to be hoped fruit growers will accept this'hint, and if they do, and act upon it, more satisfactory prices will be their reward. John Reid and Co. report, regarding their auction sale of groceries, held at their rooms to-day, a fair attendance of the trade, and satisfactory prices, except for the teas, which were sold at prices, and the new hops, for which onlj Is per lb. was offered. Mr. R. Arthur sold to-day, at his mart, under instructions from the trustees of the late Mr. RawUugs' estato, the property at Mount Eden, and known as Kawlingston. There was a large attendance, and the bidding was spirited. The following were the prices obtained Lot N'o. 1, 84 feet, £3 per foot; No. 2, 94ft. 6in., £4 oa ; No. 3, 94ft.
