Our Mahurongi correspondent, writes : — The small birds introduced by the Acclimatisation Society are a perfect nuisance, and much damage is being done to young fruit trees just bursting into bloom by sparrows destroying the fruit bud. The only useful birds to the farmer, the Mo Poke and Kingfisher, they wish to have exterminated. Last year, the destruction of grapes by the Blackbirds was enormous. If County Coacils or Road Boards do not organize aome plan for the destruction of these peete, in a abort time any attempt at farming or fruit growing will be of little use.
