SncOKSS — The annual meeting of the Success Gold Mining Company was to have been held on Thursday in Mr J. M. Macdonald'a office, Shortlaud-street, but it lapsed for want of a quorum. SOUTHERN MINING. The fortnight's amalgam in the Keep-it-Dark is7o7ozs. The standstill in the Welcome battery is lareely influencing mining business. The drive to intersect the reef on the low level of the Golden Treasure is being pushed ahead with all possible speed, and fair country is now being passed through. Good stone has been struck by the United Alpine Company in tUe cross-cut west from No. 4 level. The reef at present shows a thickness of 2 feet to 3 feet, underlying east. It carries a good sample of coarse gold. Tne general cleaning- in the Croesus yielded 1730z=. of retorted gold from 320 tons of stone'. The Fiery Cross claim is looking very well. The returns from the Oriental are improving, the week's crushing coming to 96ozs. of amalgam. The retorted gold for 34 weeks is 99ozs. The reef in the Energetic mine has widened out to four feet six inches, showing gold. The Golden Fleece remains unchanged. Tbe diamond drill has bored 170 feet in 18 shifts, nearly 10 feet per shift. According to the survey, stone might be expected in 120 feet more. Two men are employed prospecting in the Balaklava. A large body of gold-hearing stone has been Btruck on the bottom level of the Southern Cross, Eeofton. The manager states that, although r.ot rich, he hopes the stone will improve to a palpable degree. The South Hnpeful cross-cut is being extended by the late cap tract, The Eureka incline tunnel is being advanced at the rate of 90 feet per month.

The Imperial and Just in-Time are making s'eady headway in the low level. The diamond drill of the County Council, subsidised by Government, has been landed at Boatman's, but, pending the arrival of an experienced operator, has not been starred. The boring will take place at the boundary of tho Homeward Bound and the Comstock claims, and it is expected that about 2000 feet will have to be done to reach a continuation of the Welcome lode.
