EXPLANATION OF THE CHART. This diagram shows the weather over temperate latitudes in Australia and New Zealand. The dotted lines or isoe * km connect equal readings of the barometer at 9 a.m. on the above date, and thus indicate the general circulation of the atmosphere, the wind always following the«e lines, changing its direction as they change, and increasing in force according to the amount of difference of barometer which the.v express. The arrows fly with the wind, which always blows in a contrary direction to the movement of the hands of a clock, round the area of niou barometer, and with the dock hands round a low barometer or cyclonic area. Changes of weather chiefly ariso from the eastward progress of these latter disturbances, at the rate of 3(30 to 500 miles in 24 hours. All local deflections of the Lsobars, due to the shape of the land, are omitted. SYNOPSIS OF THE WEATHER. New Zealand : Fine all over ; wind changing to W.; high pressure all over. Australia ' High pressure generally, especially on West Coast, with light variable winds ; fine. Barometers : New Zealand—Russell, 30 4 ; Wellington, anil Bluff, 30 3.
