THE MINES ON FIRE.

[BY TELEGK'PH.— OWN CORnESPONDE.VT.I Thames, Tnesday. The fire is still raging in the Caledonian mine. The smoke is ascending in volumes from some of the shafts. The fire has spread some 30 feet along the level towards the Caledonian shaft, and is burning the drive timber on its way. The fire brigades are filling on to the floor of-the level from the burning stacks. The manager is inclined to think it would be as well to allow the fire to expend itself as to attempt to conquer it. It is not readily eorneatable. Means would be adopted to secure the shaft, and about 100 feet of timbering would be the greatest loss.
