ORDINARY MEETING, The ordinary business of the Council was then proceeded with, the same councillors beiny present. TRAiiWAY-.—The Mayor reported, the result of a conference of a committee,- consist* tog of Messrs. Barber, Winks, and himself, with the directors oi the Tramway Company on some points raised as to time, &c, but nothing definite was arrived atj and they were exactly in the same position as before. Leavb op Ab.sb.ncis.—Mr. Worthibgtpn, one of the newly-elected members: of the Council, wrote req nesting that. he might be excused from attendance at the.meetibgs Of the Council, 6a the ground of ill health;, till the Ist of October^—The request was granted.

Leave of Absence.—Mr. N. W, Pollard asked for leave of absence for five weeks, as he was proceeding to the Waikato on business.—Leave was granted. Koad Metal—Mr. fifstoh, gaoler, wrote enquiring whether the Council would require the remainder of 500 yards of road metal, 117 yards, and if so to send for it at once. He also informed the Council that their contractor would not be allowed to cart from the gaol unless he at once paid an account due by him for some year-. Dr. Snortland had offered a depot, and it was agreed to accept the offtr.—lt was agreed that the> Town Clerk ascertain the amount of the account due by the contractor, and if he agreed that thy amount be paid and deducted from his contract.

AlPha-koaiv—Mr. George Bagley wrote offering to pay a proportion of the cost of asphalting Or concreting the footpath iu front of his prppei-ty on Alpha-road.—Deferred till next meeting. Boilding Link, —, Mr. Edward Stilwell wrote, regarding a notice he had received, that his building and fencing were encroaching on the stteer, aud asked for particulars, as he should require a building line*—The consideration Of the question was deferred till next meeting.

IviGiiTsotl. Contract.— George Wilson, njghtsQil contractor, wrote renewing his application for compensation, on account of the bad state of the loads* —Deferred till next meeting. Drainage Contractor.—The Foreman of. Works wrote, stating that the drainage contractor refused to allotf any inspection of works he was doing on private property.— The resolutions previously passed on the subject were submitted by the Mayor, and the subject was referred to thq Engineer. The Contractor's AccooST.—Thb. items pf the drainage contractor's account were investigated. The. account had been, certified, to by the Engineers, Messrs. Bpylan and Lundon. The account showed a balance due to the contractor of £116412s lid, of which £700 had been voted at last meetiDgi and £3.40 4s lOd was to be detained as a,_ guarantee for maintenance for three months. —Finally the whole matter was referred to the Finahpe Committee.
