SALES BY AUCTION. December 1. The scoria paddock at Epsom, known as " Grummet's paudock," containing IS acres, was leased by auction to-day, and realised the I.trL'c sum of £82 per annum. his now iand mart, Queen-street, between the Bank of New Zealand and the n6w Bank of New South Wales, the attendance was very good, the bidding a great improvement on late sales, and the prices realised were very fair. The following is a list of sales effected :—Lot 1, frontage to New North-road, with cottage, £280; lots 17 and 2S, frontage to Hazlettstreet, lis 6d per foot; lots 30 and 31, 10s Gji per foot; lots 53 and 54, 13d per foot; lot 55, 12d per lots 56 and 57, 10a per foot; lot 67, 36s per foot. Decemoer 5. Mr. L. W. Eaton sold to-day 500 bunches of bananas, ex Hero. All were sold at from 2d to 3d per lb. Messrs. Vaile and Douglas sold to-day a number of valuable properties. There was a good attendance, but prices ruled low. Cottage in Shaddock-street realised £174, and allotment 13, 27a per foot. The other lots were withdrawn. December 6. Mr. G. W. Binney sold by auction to-day at his mart, Queen-street, 50 cases, each S gallons, American turps at 4s 3d per gallon, aud 6 cases lawn mowers at 40s to 50s each. There was a good attendance, and all linea of samples of yeast powder, boot polish, eto., weie sold at fair prices. Mr, G. Sibbin sold by auction to-day the lease of two allotments in the Railway Station yards. No. 1 realised £04 per annum, and No 2 £40 per annum. The sale of Tawhare town and suburban sections, at Waikato, held to-day, by Messrs. B. Tonks and Co., for the Waikato Land Association, was in all xespects a most successful one ; and, although buyers may be congratulated on i having secured firßt-class land at a moderate j price, yet the company cannot complain at their | firs j step towards settling population on the large and fertile territory they possess, and which wo understand they intend, as progress, to biing into tho market in a similar manner. This sale may be looked upon as all the more satisfactory from the fact that a large majority of the purchasers are intending settlers upon their new acquisitions, and the company are evidently determined to carry out a most liberal policy, as they have agreed that 60 soon as 20 settlers are resident on their property they will at once erect all the necessary buildings for the fully carrying on of the business of a cheese and bacon manufactory. There was a very largo attendance of buyers, a good number having come down from the Waikato for the purpose of acquiring portions of this property. The sale realised £3407. At the same time 70 packages of choice Indian new season teas were sold, and good prices were obtained. December 13. Messrs. B, Tonks and Co. sold by auction today at their mart 120 allotments (in 2 blocks), situated at Springside, near the waterworks and abattoirs. There was a, good attendance, and the following prices were realised Block 1, Jss£> per acre, R. H. Chester ; block No. 2, £30 per acre, same purchaser; lease of allotment at Kemuera, near the residence of Mr. T. T. Gamble, £12 per annum, Mr. D. Fallon; paddock at the rear of Mr. Lodder's residence for 21 years, £18 per annum, Mr. W. Lodder. They also sold by private offer No. 1 allotment, Queen and Quay-streets, having a frontage of 120 feet to Quay-street, 41 feet to Queen-street, and 41 feet to Little Queen-street. of the lease is for 62 years. The Auckland Harbour Board were the purchasers at a premium of £2000 upon the former purchaser's cost. Messrs. Cochrane and Son. sold to-day, lot--111, George-street, Ponsonby, with four-roomed cottage, for £230 ; lot 112, with an old dwelling upon it, for £120; four lots at Waiuku, for £3 15*; 40 acres, Manaia, 5* Gd per acre; lot 10, Kaiwaka, 3 roods S perches, £2. December 14. Mr. L. W. Elton held a sale of fruits to-day. There was a good attendance, and the following prices were realized Oranges, 17s to 18-; ; c-iso pears, 4d; apples, 3d; plums, 4d to G.Jd ; onions, apples (American), 17s per case. Mr. R. C, Greenwood sold by auction at the offices of the Harbour Board the lease of the right of collecting tolls leviable on Queen-street and Railway Wharves, and also tho right of collecting all charges leviable for the use of the weighbridge for the term of 12 months from the lßt of January, 1883. Mr. J. Russell was the purchaser at £210 per month, this amount being an advance of £7 per month on last year. Messrs. B. Tonks and Co. held a sale of American apples to-day, at their mart. There was a good attendance, and fair prices were realised. Tho trade sale of wines, kc. s was postponed until to-morrow. There was a fair attendance of Mr. G. Lewis' sale of Engliah-made furniture to-day. Fair prices were realised. Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son held a sale of freehold allotments at Cheltenham, North Shore, at their mart, to-day. There was a good attendance, and the following prices were obtained : —Lots 69, 70, 71. and 57. £2 per foot; lot 45, £1 per foot ; lots S5, 86, 87, and SS, £2 per foot; lot G5, 31s per foot; lots G3, and 04. 303 per foot; lots S2, 83, and S4, £L per foot; lots 47, 48, and 49, 30s per foot; lot 43, 30s per foot. Tho brigantine Oden cleared at the Customs to-dny, with a cargo of kauri gum, consisting of 177S cases (160 tons), the values of the cargo being £7200. Mr. A. Buckland offered for sale by auction to-day the well-known racehorses Harkaway and Yuba Bill. Neither horses brought the reserve, and were therefore withdrawn. Tho highest bid for Harkaway w*s £ISO, and for Yuba Bill, £45. Messrs. D. Tonks and Co. sold to-day, at their mart, the privileges of the Auckland Racing Club Summer Meeting, on December 26, and January 1 and 2, 1883. There was a good attendance, and the following prices were realised:—Publicans' Booths: No. 1, £G5, McGlashen ; No. 2, £55, same buyer ; No. 3, £40 ; No. 4, £53, Foster; lean-to at back of Gr;ind Stand, £79, Gillander ; Grand Stand bar, £39, J. There was a verj' largo attendance of tho trade, and the sale was one of the strongest held for some time. Good prices were obtained (in some instances extreme prices) for large lines. Altogether the sale may be considered a most satisfactory one. December 18. Messrs. Cochrane and Son sold by order of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at their mart, to-day, \ farm near Drury, consisting of 457 acres 30 perches land, enclosed with a fence and creek. The lot realised £545 16s. December 19. Mr. G. Lewis held a sale of books, etc., at his mart to-daj. There was a full attendance, add all lines otiered were sold at fair price®. December 20. Mr. G. W. Einney reports of his sale of currants, &c., held to-day, that there was a good attendance, anil the currants, Blightly damaged, were quitted at 2d per lb. in bond. Messrs. B. Tonks and Co. held a sale of fancy goods, vases, &c,, at their mart to-day. There

Hickson and Co. held a sale at their rooms to-day of allotments at "Vauxhall. Only three allotments were quitted, the balanco being held for advance on prices offered. Lot 1 realised 35s per foot: lot 2, 36d per foot; lot 3, 45s per foot. No. 31 and part 32 and 33, DeTonport, was withdrawn at : £2 os per foot. Messrs. B. The barque Asbmore clenred outwaids for London with a cargo valued at £54,443, to make r.p which wool eontributes £25,C10, kauri gum £17,145, cobra,£2l72, tallow £1204, and flax £960. She takes only one box of gold, valued at £573. Mr. R. C. Greenwood held a sale of tent.-', books, &c., to-day. There was a good attendance, and fair prices were realised. WOOL SALES. Mr. A. Buckland held one of the seasons wool sale?, the third, at the Ilaymf-rket, on Wednesday, December 20. There was a large catalogue, and prices proved somewhat of a surprise. There have been no special advances noticeable in the Home markets, and yet yesterday's sale showed an advene.* of fully ;/d per j lb. on wool in grease as compared with the preI ceding sales. There was a new buyer in the market, Mr. Rnyner, of Blenheim, who bid spiritedly, and Mr. Laybourn followed up by competing biiskly. There was no perceptible improvement for washed wool, and several lots were withdrawn, the prices not reaching tho vendors' reserves. The sale, however, was a very successful one, eutirely satisfactory to vendors of greasy wool. Washed wool ruled from Sld to 10£ d, but several lots were withdrawn "at lid reserve. Greasy wool ranged according to quality, from 6Jd to 7£d. Messrs. Hunter and Nolan held their second wool Jsale of the season on Dcc. 4. About 200 bales were offered. Bidding was steady, but at lower rates than last sale. Buyers appear very cautious, and complain of unfavourable advices from Home. KEMUERA CATTLE FAIR. The second ciUle fair of the season was held at tho Kemuera Yards on December 33, the sale being conducted by Mr. A. Buckland. The number of cattle yarded was small, and there was a want of condition apparent, which is entirely owing to the scarcity of feed, the season being very backward. The recent drought has been very trying. The attendance of buyers was small, and the bidding was far from being spirited. Mar,y pens were withdrawn, the prices offered not reaching the expectations of the vendors.
