RAILWAY KETUitXS. Tlifc. following are the railway returns for the four weeks ending 11th November: — Xcuixii INLAND. |

During tho first thirty-two weeks of the curren l ; financial year the Now Zealand railways have yielded in gross receipts ±'363,379, as compared, with £323,025 in the corres-ponding-pcriod of last year, but the working expenses absorb 03 per cent, instead of -Jt) per cent., the net prutit is only £191,007 instead of £209,G00', the failing o:F beiny nearly £10,000. 'i'hrf Wellington section shows an increased profit of nearly £1000, and the mineral lines still show well, but the others all exhibit retrogression, excepting Napier, which is stationary. It lias an increase of £2 17s per mile in gross receipts, but the working 'expenses are augmented by £53.' 13s per mile, and the net profit shows a diminution cf £15,300. The falling oil' is not due to any deficiency ill the tralKe, for there is a substantial increase both in the passenger and goods traffic.
