COROMANDEL GOLDFIELD.
[WIOM OUR OW.V COKKESrOKDE.N'T.] CoromandEl, Saturday. Minim.; matters ;iro looking decidedly healthy iu this district. Active operations are in jirogi'ess all over the field, altogether unlike wliat- is usually 'che ease at this season of the year, when mining is generally at its worst. The prescn?, time is quite exceptional in that respect. People were never more hopeful or more willing to invest in a legitimate venture, and from the large am'jimt of de-s.dwork going on in the various mines there is almost certain to be a return ere long. The ffcion Beach Company are vigorously opening ".p the mine, and the manager anticipates having some g>od payable ground above the ISO feet level. With that view lie lias carefully inspected the old workings, aud has picked up what appears to be a branch of the cross-reef which formerly yielded so well, and has already obtained gold therefrom. He has also sunk a winze on the Cireeu Harp reef, seaward of the Black reef, aud obtained some excellent stone. The reef is quite intact in this direction. lon A. —The manager of this mine has had a tougher job clearing out the shaft aud cutting a chamber than he anticipated. There is strong evidence that a reel was tapped at the time they were flooded out, as pieces of very nice-looking quartz are found in the mullock choking up the drive, The country is exceedingly good, and from its position can hardly fail of being good. Nkw United. —This claim is likely to come to the fore again. It appears the present shareholders 111 prospecting the ground discovered a new leader running parallel with tiie old Pacific leader, and about 30 feet distant, and having obtained a fair prospect, a drive was put in on it, and good crushing dirt was taken out all the way, the best being on the floor, causing an underhand slope to be carried along. '1 his was crushed and gave a splendid return of over lloy.s. of gold, which at once decided them to go to work from the low level. In the meantime wiir/e is being sunk. J rsT in Tim i:. —The manager has had a first-class crushing (luring the month, ami obtained 1 t-iozs. of gold f'ruin 80 terns o; stuff treated. The mine is still looking well. KATANGA.— Extensive operations are in progress in this mine. .Since last summary was written .Scotty's reef has been intersected at the bottom (-i.">o feet) level,, ami some very rich stone taken out. The fact of striking gold at this level is very encouraging. i Xi;\v O.ii'.nY.—This company is pushing operations vigorously. The fact of their getting rich gold at a great depth is very encouraging for them. Tuscati:a. —There is a great improvement in the prospects of this mine, especial!-,- at the bottom level. (Jood gold lias been carried along for over -iO feet, and some excellent picked stone taken out, and the general stun i:as also shown up better than formerly. Bi-makck.—The trilmters Hornibrooh and parly appear to have struck a good patch in this claim. A short time since they had a splendid crushing of over -'JUe-.-.s. of gold, and there is a very large section of the reel m tact. Tiki.—This district is very fiat.
