TO-DAY'S RACES.

NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS. Br Pii.eto.v. The second day's racing of the Auckland Summer .Meeting takes p.'ace to-day at Ellerslie, aud as there is every appearance of tine weather a larger attendance than even that of Tuesday last may be looked forward to. Ihere are six event? set down on the programme for decision—the Derby Stakes H miles ; Publicans' Purse, 1 mile ; Auckland Racing Club Handicap, miles ; Selling Race, 1 mile and a distance ; .Midsummer Stakes l> furlongs, and Grand Stand Handii;; mil'.'s. ihe foltowiug are my selcctious tor ihe various ; Tilie D;-:KLV. By the unfortunate accident that bc-fel Turquoise, this race has teen robbed of a good <teal of interest", and by present appearanees it looks a moral for the Cup v;iuner. | ihere are only three horses left in, and I shall, without further ado, place them Welcome jack J Ft.siiwo.man ... n j Kinca.sk ... ... There has been a lot or " flashing " over this race, and not a little laying of heads together in endeavouring to fix it up to the satisfaction of one or two horseowners. From what I have seen and heard, I think ic unlikely that the Cup winner will be amongst those wbo go to the post, and in that case I do not think I can do better than declare for The Poet l~ Tim Whif-lek 2 Virginia Water 3 SELLING RACE. The following horses are engaged in this event: —Paramena, Prince Charlie, Maori, Merlin, Yatapa, Lara, Minerva, Yuba Bill, Fishwoman, Mavis, Soukar, Luckpenny, Tempest, Poet, aud Bryan O'Lynn. If I was sure that Fishwoman would go to the post she should carry my support; but as I understand there is a doubt about it, I think it better to declare for Merlin" 1 Ml .verya 2 Luckpen vy 3 MIDSUMMER STAKE?. Four youngsters are engaged in this event, viz. :— Nelson, by King Cole—My Idea Musketeer, by Musket—Yatterina Mitrailleuse, by Musket—Eryeina Rubina, by Kings borough—Etiquette. I shall expect them to finish— Rubina ... ... ... ... ... x Mitkailleose... ... ... ... 2 Nelson 3 GF.A-.-JD STAND HANDICAP. This event is to a certain extent dependent on previous running, and it is very difficult to say what horses will go to the post. If Welcome Jack is reserved for it he will be hard to beat, aud for an outside show commend me to the chance of Fishwoman. On Saturday Contractor and Blucher were scratched for all engagements at the A.R.C. Summer Meeting.

Owing to the uncertainty that exists as to whether Welcome Jack will start for the A.R.C. Handicap, the betting on that event has become almost paralysed, aud therefore little wagering was done at Tattersall's on Saturday night.

An offer of 350 guineas was made on Saturday for Tim Whilller, but refused, and the little horse will therefore again carry the " black jackct and cherry cap."
