_ r VICTORIA. Mrlxovknb, Thursday.—Early morning Was bright and clear, and favourable obaer- ! vations of the transit of Venus were obtained. Later : The observation of the transit of Ve»us from the Melbourne station was successful. It was somewhat cloudy at sunrise, but the clouds cleared off before the critical time. Twenty-three good photographs were obtained. The observations at Gippsland station were not successful. Weather was misty and rain was falling. NEW SOUTH WALES. Stoxht, Thursday.—Rain fell this morning, and heavy clouds prevented observations of the transit of Venus. QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, Thursday.—The intended observations of the transit of Venus were rendered impracticable by the bad weather. Heavy rain fell both here and at Jiinbour, and the English astronomers did not succeed in taking any observations. TASMANIA. Hobart, Thursday. — The observations of the transit of Venus were completely successful this morning. The weather was very favourable, and the observers consider the results perfect throughout.
