THE BUILDERS' ASSOCIATION AND THE INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS.

A mkktino of the Auckland Institute of Architects will be held this afternoon, to consider the following communication received from the Builders' Association :— Mr. W. F. Hammond, Secretary Institute M Architects : Bear Sir,—l am instructed to forward you a copy of the resolution which was carried at a special meeting of builders held last ni.ht, and whilst doing so 1 cannot (personally) but regret that matters have arrived to this point, for I feel coruin (from ex pressions which were used and statements that were mado) that if the Institute of Architects would kindly communicate officially which arc the conditions considered objectionable, and also point out how they would affect the public that the differences would shortly cease, for 1 beg to assure you that this association is not only willing but anxious to meet tho Institute and endearour to mutually settle this very voxed question of generel conditions; and it is only because tho association did not know how to instruct Its deputation that made it necessary to pass the following resolution (copy): "As tho reply received from tho Institute of Architects raises no point of disagreement relative to tho general conditions of contracts adopted by this association and sent for the approval of tho institute, we deem it unnecessary to appoint a deputation to meet the institute until objections are raised to our conditions are raised to our conditions, when we will then be prepared to meet and discuss the objectionable clausos." The annual meeting of this association takes place next Thuradav. allow me to express a wish and venture to hope that the differences existing will cease, and that we may besin the new year with a better understanding *nd a better feeling towards one another than is at present existing.—l am, &c. Cnani.Es Samuel Wright, Secretary A. U,A—South British Buildings. December
