WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.

[rSOH OCR OWN COKKESPO.NDBNTS.] Cambridge, Wednesday. As I stated in a former communication it •was understood that the natives forcibly ousted from their cultivations and whares on the Pukekura block by Messrs. E. B. Walker and others would seek redress at law. Informations have been issued by Mr. Wells, J.F., against Mr, E. B. Walker and some twenty other persons on the information of Ani Waata and Hori Puao, that on the 17th November, at the Mangapiko native settlement, on the block of land known as Pukekura, they forcibly, and with strong hand, did enter into certain fenced and cultivated lands on the said block, the freehold property of the informants, and expel the same persons from peaceable possession. Charges of assault are also laid by Tamahana, Whareakaka, and Tapa Tewhata ; also a charge of assault by AuiWaata against Charles Walker and others, of striking her with a spade, and seizing her by the arms and legs, aud dragging her out of her house before destroying it. Another charge of assault is against E. B. Walker and others, of riotously assembling and disturbing the peace, and assaulting another native woman, Mere Whakatutu, otherwise Mere Ngarangi. The cases will be heard on Tuesday next before Mr. Northcroft, R.M. Mr. William McGregor Hay is tho counsel for the prosecution.

The laying of the foundation stone of tho Hautapu church has been definitely fixed for Friday afternoon, at five o'clock. There will be a social gathering at half-past six, at the school-house, Hautapu, at which the Bishop will preside. Ngaruawahia, Wednesday.

A special meeting of the ratepayers of the Ngaruawahia district will be held on Monday next at the Delta Hotel to elect a trustee in place of Captain Lindsay, who has resigned.

The business at the Fellmongery Company's premises is steadily on the increase, and additional labour will have to be employed. The first consignment of dressed skins was sent away the other day, and the condition of the goods reflected most creditably on the skill and care of the manager, Mr. Gray,
