[from our own corrkspondents.]

Hamilton, Monday. A meeting of the Hamilton Highway District Board was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. Way, Atkinson, Ridler, and Steele. A letter was read from Mr. A. V. Macdonald stating that the application for a goods shed at the Rukuhia station for the convenience of settlers would be reported upon. Application was made by the Newcastle Highway Board asking that some repairs might be done to the \V r hatawhata end of the Hamil-ton-Whatawhata-road, near the bush. The clerk was instructed to reply that if any money was left in hand after settling with the contractors it should be applied to the purpose asked for. A report from the Engineer was read showing that another line of road into Colonel DeQuincey's place could be got at an expense, bridge and all, of only £125, and on Colonel DtQuincey promising to find £50 of the sum required, the Board voted the remaining £75. The Rev. R. O'C. Biggs conducted Divine service both morning and evening in St. Peter's Church yesterday. There were large congregations on this the first occasion of the new incumbent occupying the pulpit, and the rev. gentleman evidently made a very favourable impression on his hearers. No offer was made on Saturday at Mr. Knox's auction for the house and property of Mr. Lovegrove, the claimant to the Derwentwater estates, who is eudeavouring to raise the means of proceeding to England to recover the property.

Yesterday, as Mr. Trewhcellar was returning on horseback from Cambridge, his horse fell under him, and he was thrown violently and considerably injured about the chest, but no bones were broken. He was brought on at ouce to Hamilton, and attended by Dr. Carey, under whose skilful treatment he will probably be about in a few days. A very serious accident happened to the younger daughter of Mr. Gaudin, of the Waikato Hotel, yesterday evening. The little girl, who is about six years old, fell down one of the flights of stairs, and was picked up insensible, having suffered a severe concussion of the brain. Though not yet out of danger, hopes are entertained of her recovery, and great sympathy is expressed for Mr. and Mrs. Gaudin. At a speciul meeting of the Waikato County Council to-day, plans of the proposed works at Kirikiriroa Highway District, to be executed by the loan, under the Roads Construction Act, were approved. The Engineer, Mr. Sandes, had not been able to get the plans of the Tamahere works prepared in time for the meeting, but power was given to the chairman, Captain Steele, on receipt of the plans, and his approving them, to forward them to Wellington without delay. It was resolved to amend the boundaries of the Waikato County, so that the whole of the Taotaoroa Highway Board should be iucluded in the Piako County. Kihikihi, Monday evening, Mr. William Corboy died yesterday. Cambridge, Monday evening. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Mr. A. Renton, who was thrown from his horse on Friday evening. The evidence went to show that on riding the horse from Cambridge to Gwyunelands he was galloping round the sharp corner opposite Mr. Buckland's house. His face and skull were literally smashed in, and one of his wrists was broken, evidently caused in pulling out his hand to save himself. The jury returned a a verdict of " Accidental Death."
