THE CAMBRIDGE LAND COURT

[BY TKLKGKAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Cambridok, Monday. On the opening of the Court Mr. Sheehan mentioned that as many persons present were anxious to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Ronton, who had for a long time been connected with the Court in relation to surveying, he would ask f«r an adjournment in the afternoon for that purpose.

The Court said the request was a very reasonable one, and agreed to adjourn accordingly. A map of Waotu North was then put in shewing the reserves and subdivisions agreed upon by Dr. Buller and Mr. Sheehan for their respective clients.

A long discussion then ensued as to the principle which should govern the hapus in the selection of names for the several subdivisions of the blocks. Dr. Buller specially mentioned the Ngatimatau hapu, whom Arekatera had all through recognised as owners of the block, and about whose allocation there was now a difficulty.

Judge Williams explained his views to the natives, and advised them to come to a friendly settlement among themselves, failing which the Court must take it in hand. Inasmuch, however, as this matter could not be allowed to block the general business, he intimated that unless arranged by to morrow morning Ike lists would be ordered to stand over till Saturday next, the Court proceeding, in the meantime, with the Whetu No. 2 claim. *
