LIST OF THE INJURED.

[Keceived Dec-;mb'.*r 4, 1*2.40 p.m.] Melbourne, December 4. The Hawthorn collision has proved, more serious in its etiects than the accident which occurred at .Jolimont in August, 1881. More* fatalities, however, were caused by the latter than, likely to arise from Saturday's disaster. The total number of those injured is now known to exceed tifty, and by some the number is estimated at fully seventy. 'Many of the suli'erers at once proceeded to tlu-ir homes.

The injured include Mr. Taylor, auctioneer, and jVir, liis clerk j Mr. Dalgety, clerk, lui.s his legs fractured, and iMr. Andrew Jack is suffering from severe injury to his head; Miss Berry, daughter of the ex-Premier, is sutieriny from a severe shock to her system, and Councillor Cavatiagh from internal injuries ' Messrs. Crowther and Rosser arc dangerously wounded, and their condition is critical.

The following am the names of the others who are seriously injured :— iiville, injuries to legs and back, and severe shock to system • Laura Brown, aged 12, fractured leg ; Scarfield, a tailor, internal injuries, and now in a critical state ; Smith, a solicitor, concussion of the brain • Mrs. Lawlor, a landlady, concussion of the spine; Jjcivrrence, a schoolboy of Kew, broken leg ; Cochren, a clerk, fractured ribs.

The injuries to the other passengers are not or a serious charater. [Keceived Decembers, 120 a.m.] Melbourne, December 4. Most of the suli'erers by the railway accident are now progressing favourably. ■Iho inquest will bo opened to-mor-row (i uesday), and after the inquest a. Court of Inquiry into the circumstances which led to the collision will be held. The station master at Hawthorn has been suspended. It is expected that the damages to be awarded to those injured will be much greater than those by the Jolimont accident last year.
