By the Auckland University College Aot, three members of the Council Lave to be sleeted by the members of the General Assembly (both Houses) residing in the provincial district of Auckland. The votes were sent to the Inspector-General of Education, Mr. Habens, who now announces that the successful candidates are Bishop Cowie, Dr. Campbell, and Mr. E. Hesketh.

A very pleasing ceremony took placa at the residence of Mr. Henry Palmer, J.P., Pousouby, a few days ago, when his two eldest daughters were married to two well known and highly respected settlers. Miss Sarah Jane Palmer was united in wedlock to Mr. R. \V. Moody, J. P., and Palmer to Mr. William Angove, the i.nJy sou of Mr. Matthew Angove, the district coroner at Warkworth and one of Her Majesty's justices of the peace for the colony. The Rev. Mr. Dewsbury officiated on tiie happy occasion.

An examination of candidates for matriculation at the University of New Zealand is to be held in the old District Court-house from Monday, 11th December, to Tuesday, 19th December, —the Rev. D. W. Mr. Aiclcin has proved himself active and energetic in public busiuess, and we doubt net Mill make an efficient chairman of this important public body. Tne position ia one of much responsibility, for upon the chairman in a great measure depends the good working of the Board. On the 16th November, the Spring Show, under the auspices of the Auckland Horticultural Society, was held in the Choral Hall. The Show was varied and large, and, though the weather had been for sometime previously rather unfavourable to flower culture, the display in this respect was very respectable. In various classes of vegetables the exhibition was excellent, and so far as lemons, oranges, &c, were concerned, there was nothing left to be desired as to quality.

The installation ceremonies in conuectiou with the second anniversary of the Lodge Northern .Light, IS7B, E.C., Kawakawa, took place in the Masonic Hall, Kawakawa, on Nov. S. Tlie Lodge was opened at high noon, under the presidency of the retiring W.M., Brother Alfred Elias l'arr, supported by his officers. The visitors included Brothers Wm. P. Moat, P.G.S.W., E.C. ; A. Wright, W.M. Lodge Ara, 34S 1.C., P.M., GS'J E.C. ; J. S. Hatswell, P.M., 659 E.C. ; T. W. Kitt, W.M. Lodge Eden, 1530 E.C.; H. G. Payne, 4211.C.; J. M. McLaren, P.M. Sir Walter Scott, 533 S.C., and J. K. Hanna, S. !>. Ara, 348 I.C. The minutes of last meeting having been confirmed, Brother Arnold Win. Mann was presented as W.M. elect, and having been duly installed was proclaimed and saluted with the customary honours. Brother Wm. P. Moat acting as installing ofiicer and conducting the ceremony in a most able and impressive manner, and delivering the solemn charges with much effect. The newly-installed XV. M. then invested his officers as follows: — Brothers A. E. Farr 1.P.M., George Turnbull S.W., M. Nattrass J.W., Francis McKenzie treasurer, Jno. McNiccol secretary, Jno Keatley S.D., Wm. Coutte J.D., J. A. L. Hall I/i., J. H. Moore 0.G., after which a banquet followed.
