PUKEKOHE EAST.

o< A very interesting and excellent lecture on "The French Revolution," was delivered in tbe Presbyterian Churoh on Tuesday evening, 2Sth ult., by thy Kev. Mr. Smallfield. There was a tolerable-attendance, Mr. Deerness occupying the chair. The rev. gentleman gave his lecture entirely from memory, and stated that it was rather a story of the French Revolution than a lecture, the story consisting of a series of graphic word pictures of the leading characters and events in connection with the commencement, progress, and termination of that thrilling yet dreadful period in tho history of the French nation. Mr. Smallfield spoke for nearly two hours. A choir sang a few suitable pieces. A hearty vote of thanks was giveu to tho lecturer. Tho proceeds go to the public library.— [Own Correspondent.]
