Mr. S. Ramsbottom, Welsford, has written | a long letter complaining of irregularities in postal matters on hoard the s.s. Liguria. It appears, according to his statement, that he I had given letters to some of the officers on board that vessel to be posted. lie says money was given to pay for the postage, but some of the letters sent to New Zealand, when delivered, the receivers had to pay a fine for non-payment of postage. We do not see how we can help Mr. Ramsbottom in this matter, as the Orient Company's ships are not subsidised for carrying mails as are those of the P. and O. Company's. The New Zealand Insurance Company, we understand, had reinsured £390 of its risk on Mr. Kelsall's property, and £200 of its risk on Mr. Spalding's property (destroyed at the Onehunga fire), in the National Insurance Company.
