WIRE TRAMWAYS IN SAN FRAN CI SCO.

DrniNc his visit to 8-.in Francisco, at the beginning of the yer.r, .Sir Vlcnry Parkes gave himself a considerable amount of trouble in inspecting the wire tramway system of that city, which was invented by an engineer named Hallidio. Sir Henry went over most of those tramways, and examined the stationery engine works and other parts of the apparatus. Finally, Sir Henry Parkes requested Mr. Hillidie' to manufacture for the New South Wales Government a model of tho peculiar machinery underground by which the trameurs arc held on to the wires or detached at a moment's notice when required—a very ingenious picc-u of apparatus, but very diliicnlt to uisealie without the aid of a model.
