ST. MATTHEW'S CHOIR CONCERT.

TllK choir of St. Matthew's Church gave a i concert at St. James' Jlall last evening. | Twenty-four of the nicinbers were present. , The organist of the church, Air I'ooley, was i conductor. Before the conuert began, the ' Kev. Mr. Tcbbs, incumbent of St. Matthew's Church, stated that alterations would have to be made in the programme, owing to a notice which had been received stating that • several of the pieces were copyright. Austin was loudly iippl.iuded for his ; song, "Maid of Athens," which was re- i demanded, and the last verse was repeated. ! The ballad, " My love has gone a-sailing" j (Molloy), was nicely sung by Mi=s (Ireen, n > pupil of Mr. I'ooley (the conductor). Mr Massoy's soul , , " Killarncy," was much appreciated. The part songs were well snug by the choir, with the exception of "Blow Gentle Gales," in which the members displayed great nervousness. Miss Wright sang "Children's Vocics" unaflyetedly and with taste. Miss Coster's rendering of the favourite ballad, " Twickenham Kerry," was heartily applauded, and she was recalled. Miss Hooper displayed fine execution iu her pianoforte solo, "Tarantellc" (Heller). This young lady is also a pupil of Mr. l'ooley. The trios, " Drink to me only" and " Ye shepherds tell me," by Messrs. Aust n, Ferriday, and Warner, displayed careful preparation by these gentlomen.*The fine song, " The Storm Fiend," was given by Mr. Uerapath, who was somewhat nervous. Mr. Pocley secompained on the pianoforte.
