LAND SETTLEMENT AND ENDOWMENT ASSOCIATION.
A mkktinc: of the Catholics of Auckland was held at St. Patrick's Hall, Ilobson-stroet, last evening, for the purpose of discussing the objects of the Colonial Land Settlement and Endowment Association ; Mr. Daniel Lynch in the chair. After a prolonged discussion it was proposed by Mr. (Jleeson, seconded by Mr. Kyre, and carried unanimously, '• That this meeting fully approve of the principles of the association, and pledges itseli to do all in its power to further tho objects of thd association." After a vote of thanks to the chair the meeting terminated. Subsequently, a few of those who attended the meeting remained discussing the details as to the proceedings to be adopted to bring the matter fully before the public, and from tho disposition of those present there is no doubt that the object of the meeting will be brought to a successful termination. Mr. Cook, the managing director of the association, is at present here, but will leave for the South shortly, before which he will make the necessary arrangements lor transacting the business of the association in Auckland. The objects of the company are:—l. To purchase land. &c . in various parts of New Zealand or elsewhere, and to give facilities to the working classes of purchase and settlement on easy terms of payment. 2. To lend money at interest for educational or Church purposes. H. To receive money on deposit at interest. -1. To grant loans on approved security, and to assist industrious settlers. ."). To provide for Catholic educational purposes an annual sum from the profits as an endowment not exceeding .~>o per cent, of profits, and to be apportioned according to tiie number of shares held in each parish, or as may bo decided by the directors. 6. To establish branches or agencies, at the discretion of the directors, at any place to promote the interests of the association. 7- To establish, when necessary, a resident director in Britain, to be appointed by the Colonial Directory for the time being, to promote the interests of the association, and to scud out settlers to the company's lands.
