Thk damage ilone by the cutting of the VTaihou River lanlc, referred to iu the Hep.au> a few- days since, is likely to prove Tery serious. The quantity of sand and soil washed into the river is already impeding the navigation, and during the week several of t!ie steamers plying on the river have been hard aground, notwithstanding that they are of very light draft. Mr. Firth's boat, the Kotuku, could only get about four or five miles beyond the jmict on at Paeroa, and then had to he lightened to enabln her to coin- j plete her journey. As yet the season lias been ariVthing but a dry ane, but if these impediments are already being met with, a complete stoppage of the navigation may be anticipated before the end of the autumn. THE THAMES RIVER STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY. The first annual meeting of the shareholders of this company was held last night at the company's oiiice, Albert-street. There was a good attendance, and the proceedings passed off very satisfactorily. On the motion of Dr. Kilgour, the directors' report and balance-sheet was adopted. The report showed the receipts from passage money and charters •were £100S 10s Id, and from freights, £1552 19s 7d ; or a total of £2001 9s Sd. Besides which, £S4O was due by the ■agents. The transactions of the company have only extended over a period of ei s ht months, viz., from May to December. LODGE "SIR WALTER SCOTT." The u3ual installation of officers of Sir Walter Scott Lodge took place at Grahams- | town on Tuesday evening, in the presence of a large gathering of brethren of the con- | ■stitution. Brother E. T. Wildman, of the English Constitution, officiated as installing Oiiicer. in a most efficient and impressive manner. The following officers were installed ,John Watson, R.W.M.; J. McLaren, R.P.M.; W. Johnston, Bible-bearers; Chas. Ahier, Secretary; J. H. Smith, Treasurer; and Eros. JfcQuade and Wilson, Stewards.'
