PARNELL.

The interest in this election was not so , great as in other electorates, owing to the : general convictiou that Mr. .Moss' return , was outside the chapter of accidents, and the result proved that the conviction was well , founded. The polling-places were Parnell- , hall, Public-hall, Newmarket, and St. Sepulchre's School-room. The principal polling-place was at Paniell-hall, where Mr. Lodge officiated as Returning Officer. When the final result was posted outside the hall, Mr. Moss was seized and carried shoulderhigh to the platform, amidst great cheering. He thanked the electors for returning him again to the House, and hoped they would have no occasion to regret that day's decision. He was glad he had to contest the seat, as it had brought him more closely into contact with his constituents. Mr. Monk and himself had carried out the tin: affnir in good feeling. There was really little difference in their political views, and he hoped Mr. Monk would next time contest a district with an opponent of opposite views to himself. Mr. Monk also thanked those who had worked for him, and, amidst cheers, expressed the hope, in the language of Mr. Moss, that they would have no reason to regret that day's decision. The following are the returns :— Moss. Monk. Paruell 235 120 Newmarket 93 41 St. Sepulchre's ... 65 54 393 215 215 Majority for Moss ... 17S
