ECCENTRIC PEOPLE.
The eentleman who went out to bathe one morning in Wales with a duplicate set of clothes in a bundle was reported dead, mourned by his friends for years, and only came into existence again to claim some property when he was well-nigh forgotten ; and there are stories in existence, and well authenticated, of the strangest freaks committed by people apparently sane, but gifted with an intense love of misehief in its more tragic forms. The story of the man who lived in the same street with his wile for years and never met her is a stock one, but not so well known is the anecdote of a steady-going Government clerk who when he died was claimed by two wives as the father of two distinct families. He had lived a double life in different parts of London for upwards of thirty years, representing to each wife that he was a commercial traveller, and bound to go on his rounds, whereas he only changed his residence from Dalston to Brixton, and vice versa. —Daily Telegraph.
