PARNELL WESLEYAN CHURCH.
A soikee in connection with the Wesleyan Church was held last night. There was a large gathering, and the tables were served by the following ladies Mesdames Dennett, Harvey, Morley, Laybourne, Nicholson, Thompson, White, and Carmieliael, and Misses Ottway and Carmieliael. After the tables were cleared, the Rev. L. M. Isitt gave out the opening hymn, and engaged in prayer, after which Mr. T. Buddie was called to the chair, and gave a brief address. The Rev. Mr. Watkins made a speech which was full of humour and instruction. The report submitted was highly encouraging. During the past year the offertories had shown a large increase over previous years, and the ehurch membership and Sunday-schools had been greatly enlarged. In regard to the latter it was stated that great credit was due to -Mr. Laybourne (who was absent) and to Mr. Wiseman who had gratuitously officiated as organist. Addresses were given by the Rev. Mr. Abernethy, of Paparoa; the Rev. W. Salter, of Russell ; and the Rev. W. Slade of Raglan. Votes of thanks were unanimously accorded to the ladies who presided, to the speakers, and to the choir. During the evening Mr. McKinley sang the solo "Nazareth" iu good style. Mrs. Revitt contributed a song in her usual finished manner. Several other songs were rendered by .Mrs. Maxwell and others, and the proce.r"'i;igs appeared to bo thoroughly enjoyable to the audience.
