SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

Yesterday afternoon about half-past 5 o'clock a rather serious accident occurred in Albert-street. It appears that about that time a young boy, about four years of age, named .John McCaully, was playing on the side of the street opposite to Mr. Chermside's furniture warehouse, accompanied by another small boy named John Adams. The boy McCaully was riding on the top of the fence astride, while Adams hadfjust dismounted from a similar position. At this moment Mr. Bowden with his hansom drcve up opposite the boys, stopped, left his hansom, and went into his own house. He was absent only two or three minutes, but during this short interval a strange woman came along the street, jumped into the cab, seized the reins, and set the horse in motion. She caused the horse to swerve, the wheel of the cab coming close to the fence, where McCaully was riding. A portion of the wheel caught his right thigh, crushed it against the fence, stripping for about two and a-half inches the flesh from the bone. The boy screamed, the woman stopped the horse, left the cab, and hurried off. Mr. T. Chermside was a witness to the whole proceedings, and at once rushed across the street, and took the little fellow into his arms, to convey him to where his injuries could be attended to. Mr. Bowden, hearing the screams, hurried out, and drove Mr. Chermside and the boy to Dr. Hooper's, who was absent. They then drove to Dr. Dawson's, who was also absent. Constable McDonnell came on the 3cene and had the boy taken to Mr. Dawson's, chemist, where his injuries were temporarily dressed The wound was stitched up, and means taken to stop the bleeding. The father and mother of the lad came on the scene, and Mr. Bowden conveyed the poor sufferer home, and promised to pay all expenses that might be incurred in connection with the injury. So far as we have been able to learn no trace has yet been found of the woman who was the cause of all thfl mischief.
