ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
Tue monthly meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon. There were present Messrs. Burtt (in the chair), H. Brett, H. Roche, J. A. Pond, S. E. Hughes, B. Ireland, and J. W. Palmer. The Secretary read the statement of accounts for the month, which showed an expenditure of £87, leaving a balance in the bank of £276.
The Gardens. —The report of the subcommittee to inquire into and report upon the means to be adopted to work the gardens more economically, was read. Some desultory and rather rambling discussion ensued, and finally it was resolved to hold a special meeting to consider the subject on Monday next, Mr. Lippiatt to be given a months notice in the meantime, in case it should be resolved to dispense with his services. Fish. —Mr. Pond said the fish-house at Henderson's Mill had been placed, in a state of thorough preparedness for the '' arrival of the ova from Otago. Accounts.—Some accounts were passed for payment, which concluded the business of the meeting.
