SMALL-POX. Sydney, July 29. No fresh cases of small-pox have been reported to-day. '

THE REPUBLIC FLOATED. Melbourne, July 29. Further private telegrams have been received from Calais announcing that the ship Republic, which went ashore near that port on Wednesday last, has since been, floated off, and towed into harbour. She has been docked. for examination and repairs. THE DETACHED SQUADRON. Sydney, July 29. Nothing definite has.transpired with regard to the movements of the squadron, but it is now said to be uncertain whether it will, after all, visit Auckland. The Admiral is known to be awaiting further, instructions from the Admiralty. -• VICTORIAN POLITICS. Melbourne, July 29. Parliament, resumed sitting yesterday. It was announced that Mr. David Gaunspn has resigned his portfolio of Minister, of Lands. It was further announced that the prorogation will take place on Wednesday. The new session will commence on Friday next. . In the Legislative Assembly a discussion took place in regard to tlie action of the late Commissioner of Trade and Customs, Mr. A. T. Clark, on admitting barley free. Mr. Clark was charged with partiality, and with acting ultra vires, and it was stated by Mr. Graves, the new Minister of Customs, that the system would be discontinued. Mr. Clark defended his conduct, and then left the Chamber. SYDNEY. MARKETS. Sydney, July 29. Hennessy's brandy is : unchanged ; case, 365; bulk, quarters, 12s 3d. Kerosene remains at last quotations; Diamond, Is B|d per gallon; Devoe's, 2s Id. Patna rice has risen 5s per ton, to £21 17s 6d. The Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces have declined to .£35 per ton. Ne Zealand wheat has fallen to 4s 10d per bushel. . New Zealand oats have, advanced to 2s 9d per bushel. Maize is 2s 9d per 601bs. Raven's twist tobacco is Is 4Jd. Candles : D.R.J.'s, 7*d ; D.R.O/s, 7|d.

ADELAIDE GRAIN MARKET. Adelaide, July 29. Wheat remains quiet at 4s 9d. Town flour is quoted at £11 7s 6d, and country brands at .£lO 15s. Freights to London : Steamers, 40s ; ditto sailing vessels, 37s 6d. THE FERRET. Melbourne, July 29. The steamship Ferret will be sold by auction on the 12th prox. A STEAMER STRANDED. Melbourne, July 29. The paddle steamship Murray, belonging- to the Gippsland Steam Navigation Company, has gone ashore at Gippsland Lakes, and is expected to become a total loss. :
