A NATIVE WAR IN THE NORTH.

SHOTS ARE EXCHANGED. fBY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hokiaxga, Friday. It is-reported here that the natives are a piece of land half-way between Kaikohe and Taheke, and that shots liave been exchanged, though it is not yet known with what result. Mr. Von Stunner and Constable Coughlan have left for the scene of the quarrel. These natives are the same who took part in the fight at Otawa in October, 1579, when four lives were lost. They are the most lawless natives in the district. They need a severe lesson, but of couise the authorities here are powerless to act without sufficient force. The row at present is confined to a few, and these declare their intention of fighting to the bitter end.
