THE GOLDFIELDS.

THE TIKI. [from a correspondent.]

Tiernan and Partt. — This party arfi cutting through the reef in the lower level with good results. The reef is showing gold freely in large blotches. • Blackmore and Fitzgerald.—This party are fully employed driving the cross-cut to intersect their latest find. They have still some diitance to drive before they cut the reef.

Maoris Ciaim.—The Maoris are driving their intermediate and bottom levels. They showed me about lolbs. of stone which they had just broken out of the bottom level. It could not be called specimen stone, but it showed strong colours of gold freely, and the leader looked best for gold in the bottom level. It is carrying ■ a splendid smooth footwall; just the sort of a wall with such a leader you might expect to get a good patch upon.

Sheehan and Heexan.—The manager, Mr. Kirby, has sunk a winze upon the leader, whero they found the first gold. It is about sixteen feet deep, and at this point the two reefs have junctioned. They carried very good gold all the way down, and are now driving upon the junction. . I saw some stone just broken out of the drive showing good strong coarse gold. The reef in the bottom level. is about twelve inches thick, and gives good dish prospects, but they have some distance to drive before they cut the shot of gold they had upon the surface ' McDoMTEL. Brothers.—This fine property is situated on the south-east boundary of Tiernan's, and adjacent to Blackmoreaud Sheehan's, and Heenan's, and bounds Harris and Tiernan's (now called the Castle Rock Goldmining Company), upon which a great deal of work has been dona upon payable' reefs, all of which run through this property. Messrs. McDonnel liave driven altogether about 400 feet upon five different reefs, which will average from one to three feet in thickness, and every one payable, as far as they can be tested without the aid of a battery* and patches of good specimen stone are by no means uncommon, as anyone can

see for themselves by paying a visit to their whare on the mine. They have from 100 to 130 feet of backs upon Nos. 1 and 3 reefs, and from 40 to 70 feet upon the other three reefs. They are just going to start laying down tramways in the different levels, so that everything may be in readiness for breaking stone for the battery, and, as far as I can judge, this mine only wants crushing power to bring it amongst the list of divi-dend-paying mines. HoKATlKl.—There are five good-looking leaders in this ground, and two good men doing their best to find gold in them, and from appearances I should not be astonished if they found a patch any day. LEASES ON GOVERNMENT LAND. Tiki Golden Crown.—Mr. Charles Hovel and his team of Maoris iire breaking stone to send to the battery from two different leaders, and as they can see good gold every time they break down, the stuff should pay well. The Union Jack. —This is apieceof ground known here in the old days of the Tiki as the Mystery, and lias just been again taken up by Messrs. Lockwood, Graham, and Robson. They have-found a leader in the ground showing gold.
