SALES BY AUCTION. March 30. Mr. G. Lewis' sale was well attended, *-4ml the following prices were realised :—SOO sacks feud oats, per bushel ; 30 tons coarse salt, £3 AS* per ton ; 10 kegs prime butter, 7d per lb. 'Match 31. Mr. G. W. Binney's sale was wall attended, and the bidding spirited, ospocially for the teas. The boxes of teas realised Is 3d to la 7d, and the chests Is 5d to Is 9J, and -i superior ones | Is lid. Samuel Cochrane and Son sold at i their rooms that largo brick building (known as Gi'.rdner'tf), in lot 02, having a frontage of 30 fe«3t to Little Queen-street, and 30 feet to A'bert-.street, with a thoiough depth of 121 feet, ar now held under lease from the Harbour Board for 60 years, from January 1, IS7O, at a rental of £-<5 si-year. April 7. At Mr. G. Sibbin's sale of properties yesterday, six houses and shops in Grey-strcet, 1 the property of the late Mr. Rogers, yielding a rental of £174 per awnum, were sold for £1250. For an eight-roomed house with a freehold allotment, above the junction of Grey and "Wakefieldstreets, the highest olTer was £225, but the reserve was £270. For the five-roomed house at Devonport, the highest bid was £175. The reservo was £200. Both the latter lota arc for sale privately. At Mr. G. Lewis's trade sale of boots aDd shoes, leather and pegs, there was a good attendance, and most of the lines were quitted, but prices ruled rather low, April 8. Messrs. Hunter and Nolan sold the farm now in the occupation of Mr. Downey, at One Tree Hill, containing 35 acros of volcs-nic soil, at £33 por acre. Messrs. B, Tonks and Co. sold the privileges , for the Eister races at Ellerslie, as follows :— Grand Stand bar, £40, bought by Mr. W. H. Bennett; lean-to bar, £31, J. Oillander; No. 1 booth, £'JO, D. Urquhart ; No. 2 booth, £17, J. Adams ; No. 3 booth, £11, O'Halloran ; No. 4 I booth, £8, Loomb; cards, £50, W. Adams; fruit stalls, £8, Adams; stabling, £3, Magin. The saron firm held a trade sale, at whioh 113 cases soda crystals, 70 casks whiting, I and 50 tons salt were disposed of at remunerative rates. ' April 13. Messrs. E. and A, Isaacs' trade sale of clothing, leggings, hats, waterproofs, tweeds, &c., was well attended, the bidding spirited, and the prices realised quito up to anticipation. About £3000 worth of goods were disposod of. Mr. G. Sibbin sold five crates of crockory, i manufactured in the colony, at fair prices, although the goods were scarcoly regarded aa favourably as if they had net been a New Zealand industry. Mr, Gabriel Lewis oold 40 kegs prime butter at per lb M and 200 sacks feed oats at 2s Id per bußbel. Mr. Alfred Buckland sold 400 tons New Caledonia guano, at £115s and £1 17s 6d per ton. April 20. Mr. A. Buckland held a sale of racehorses at tho Groyhouud yards, and tho following were sold :—Kawenata, 4 years, £95, Mr. M. Gallagher; Harkaway, aged, £60, Mr. Hollywood; Omega, chestnut gelding, £20, Mr. O. C. McGeo. Thero was a reserve of £250 on Vortex, of £200 on jlVlias Domett, and of £40 on Golden Crown. This not being reached ia any instanco, thoy were all passed in.

Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son held a sale of zoedone yesterday. Twelve dozen quarts realised 7s 9d per dozen, aud 71 dozen pints 5s 9d. April 22. Messrs. E. and A. Isaacs sold.the p s. Anno r Milbank as she lies stranded at Parua Bay, for £235, to Mr. Charles Bailey. There was a large attendance, aud as there were several buyers the competition was brisk. Mr, R, Arthur reports for the week : — A fair amount of business done at fair priccs. ■ Potatoes bsvo come to hand more freely : could not clear all out. Local cheese have cleared 01F pre ty well. No v°od bacon brought forward. Jintter lias moved otf rather more freely—the best samples atTd to 10(1, second-rate at very low prices—2d to -Id. Fruit has moved ofF readily at fair priccs. localgrown bringing a much higher price than the Hobart. Wednesday's sale of fruit was well attended. Paterson and Co.'s QneenaWeet, of salvage from the iato lire was largely at .tended, and all sold at high prices. The market duy s-ale at Mart of poultry, produce, etc., was well attended. A large quantity of produce and fruit exchanged hands ; the sale continued to a late hour, prices were very satisfactory. Shortland, on Thursday, tho 21st inst. as follows : —Lot 1, Polleu and Mary-streets, £8 5* per foot (Mr. McGowau); lot 2, Pollen-street, £«3 15s per foot (Mr. Dauby) ; lot 3, Mary-street, allotment 440, £3 10s per foot (Mr. Humo); lot 4, Mary-sheet, allotment 439, £4 per foot (Mr. Tuwsend); lot 5, Mary-street, allotment 438, £4 5s (Mr. Danby) ; lot 0, Mary-street, allotment 430, £3 10-H (Mr. Andrews). There was a good attendance ef buyers and bidding spirited, evincing a disposition on the part of the public for tho acquisition of freehold properties in good localities.
