FIRE-ESCAPE LADDERS.
TO TUP. EDITOR. SIR, —The erection of largo three and to:;r storey buildings points to the provision being made for escape from tire should sueh a necessity arise. Hitherto the small class of buildings and immunity from loss of life at fires has tended 110 doubt to render the authorities indifferent to providing •what might not be required, but that time has passed. Buildings, particularly hotels, boarding establishments, banks, See., wjih persons residing on the third and fourth • , storeys are now numerous nuJ upon the increase, and provision should at once be made, and not left until some tragedy occurs to awaken us to the necessity of providing such neccssavy wants as one or two good hreeseape ladders with the latest and most approved appliances.—l am, &c. f A Word r>: Season*.
