Austin, J.IVs.J Breach or the Licensing Act. —Edward ttoyie, OL WliS X/y OvniMaMv Parker with a breach of the Licensing Act, 1873, by selling alcoholic liquors to one George Kelly, son. Boyle pleaded guilty, ami was fined £15, and costs £5 los. AssAU LT, —Elizabeth Kelly charged Edward Boyle with assaulting lier, by dragging her about and throwing her down. Elizabeth Kelly and her husband, George Kelly, gave evidence for the prosecution. For the defence, "Wireimi Hocta, Hone AViremu K;m, John Scott, and Edward Boyle were examined. Mr. Laishley, solicitor, addressed the Court for the defence, urging that 110 assault had been committed. The Bench were of a different opinion, and fined Boyle £1, and costs £1 12s. Highway Rates. —Mr. Crawford, secretary to the Mauku Highway Board, brought three eases. before the Court-—Crawford v. J. G. Johnson, 12s Gd, for highway rates ; nonsuited. Crawford v. W. H. Mahon ; claim, £20, for rates and arrears ; nonsuited. CrawCord v. C. H. Delamain ; claim, £1 los, for rates ; nonsuited. It appeared that_ rates had been demanded from the wrong piece of land, and in other eases the land belonged to the Government. Trespass.—Fullerton v. Costello._ Claim, C"y 10s, for trespass by defendant's cattle. Mr. Laishley, for defendant, urged that the land must be named. His client did not know what property, if any, his cattle had been trespassing upon. By the 31st- section -,f the R.M. Act, explanation must be given before summons is issued. Xonsuited, with josts. Au.kged Pekjcry.—The principal case for adjudication by the Court was a charge laid by Mr. P. Evitts, of Kohekohe, against Mr. William Gleeson, of the same place, xrisin" out of a ease heard at the aiuku 2onrt° on the 16th instant. Mr. Laishley appeared on behalf of Itlr. Gleeson. The Bench, after hearing the evidence of Mr. md Mrs. Evitts and two of their children, mil Mr. Totter, a schoolmaster, on behalf of the prosecution, and a cross-examination by Mr. .Laishley of the witnesses, dismissed the iharge. Catti.i: Trespass.—Evitts brought a jliarge against Gleeson for cattle trespass. Mr. Laishley very soon upset the case, Evitts being non-suited with costs.
