OPENING OF THE PARNELL, SCHOOL.

TO ME EDITOR. Sir,—l attended to-day the opening of the Parnell Public School, and, a3 a parent, I must say I was highly gratified at the splendid appearance of the school, and of all the arrangements connected therewith. I must record my gratitude to the gentlemen who directly and indirectly have placed within the reach ot the humblest child in the borough the means of raising themselves to the highest positions in the land. I heard the speeches of the gentlemen on the occasion, and I was particularly struck with the remarks of Mr. Lusk and Mr. Hurst. Mr. Lnsk seems to think that the present system of education was in danger, and I was glad to hear that Mr. Hurst was in a position to give ns an assurance that, so long as the present Government remained in offic?, there was no fear of any change. Where were Messrs. Swanson and Reader Wood ? Surely they do not think they would not get a fair hearing. • The fact is, to my mind, Hurst is the honestest of the celebrated "four" that so much talk is about. One side of a story is all very well until another is told, and, although I quite believe that our member, Mr. Moss, is as honest as the day, yet the other men, although differing politically from him, have no doabt acted equally from conscientious motives. Any way, I will conclude by saying, God bless our public schools !—I am, &c., A Pabsell Man.
