RUSSELL. March 3.- Arrived : Whaleship James Arnold, from a cruise. Captain Wilson reports taking 190 barrels sperm oil. Spoke the Horatio, Captain Gerran, with one small whale since leaving Kussell. WELLINGTON. March 3. -Arrived : Barquo Buttermere, from London, after a 00 days' passage. She brings a full complement of passengers, and a large general cargo. March 9.—Arrived: Alastor, barque, from London, after an uneventful passage of 100 days. She brings 26 steerage passengers and a large cargo. LYTTELTON. March G. —Sailed : Piako, ship, for London, with twelve saloon passengers, 3452 bales wool, 2552 sacks wheat, and a quantity of sundries.
March 10.—Cleared : Arethusa, ship, for London, with 15.GG0 sacks ot wheat, 4SO sacks of oats, and 125 casks of tallow.
March 12. —The Bruce cleared yesterday for London, with a cargo of graiu, valued at £20,351'». She sails to-day. Ship Enterjjrise, for Loudon, finished loading to-day.
March IS. —The New Zealand Shipping Co. s chartered ship Etter cleared for London today with a cargo, principally of wheat, valuod at £10,000. She will probably take her departure early to-morrow. March 25. —The schooner Saxon, from the Thames, which got ashore on the North Spit, at Ivaiapoi, on Saturday, floated during the night tide, but, by some unaccountable means, got on shoro again opposite tho signal station, where she now lies. A part of ber cargo of timberwas landed. The representatives from the South British and Now Zealand ofliccs were down yesterday to decide what steps should be taken. The vessel was much strained, and making a quantity of water. Sho is well insured. Tho vessel is now out of tho reach of the sea, oxccpfc afc tho top of high water, when an easterly roll comes right in u|)on her over tho bar. Tho timber is insured in the New Zealand Insuranco Company for £170 and tho schoouor is insured for £750 in tho South British, and is valued at £1850. Sho still lies in tho same position. When visitod yesterday tho sea was breaking right ovor her. Tho Marino Surveyor advises the employment of a lighter to tako tho cargo oufc Afc present a heavy sea is rolling in, but when it 1
goes down the Saxon will be in comparatively smooth water*
