The .South Canterbury 2'irnti says:— " The professorial Htnff of the University of Otijjo, each receiving £SOO per aiiuurn and upwards, work on half time, that is to fay, they have an annual vacation of six months to enable them to recover from the fatigue of their labour.-, h'ome of theis, among the rest Professor Black, the exponent of chemistry, instead of going to the hot springs, have been in the habit of spotting out the land during the University recess, and they are now largo property holders. Professor Black ia apparently satisfied, with these operations, for he ia now devoting his aix months' holiday to a scries of lectures on chemistry and physics at the Invercargill High School.
