CHRISTMAS TREE.

Tlir, Primitive Methodist Church Sanclayscliool, Alexandra-street—of which the Key. Mr. Long is pastor—yesterday had a Christmas tree aucl a sale of fauey and useful articles, all the handiwork of the ladies and fi tends of the church. In the afternoon— from 3to G o'clock—it was open specially for the children, and the little schoolroom was quite crowded with youngsters, who all seemed to enjoy the occasion most heartily, more particularly that part of the entertainment which consisted in distributing to them the articles off the tree to which they wcro entitled according to the number of their tickets. In the evening it was the older people's turn, and they appeared to enjoy themselves almost, if not quite aa much, as the younger ones. The tree was very prettily decorated, and the tables were filled with all kinds of fancy articles, most of which were sold off during the course cf the evouing. Tiiera was a short e n;cert in the evening, in which Mrs. C .ttingham, Mis 3 Gribblc, Miss Lor.p, Miss llrr.it (from Mount Albert), and others toot part, after which the distribution of presents took place. The purpose of cliis eutertaimnent was to raise funds wherewith to purchase material?, which will be worked up into articles for a grand bazaar to be hel l several months hence, to aid towaids paying off a. debt of about £300, which still remains duo on the manse. If we may judge by tlio articles exhibited yesterday, the ladies deserve the greatest credit for the labour they have expended in the miking of them, and quite a handsome sum was realised yesterday evening by the eala of these, a3 well as by the sale of tickets.
