DOMAIN BOARD.

The monthly meeting o£ the Auckland Domain Board was held yesterday in the Ministers' room, Custom-house Buildiug3. Present: Mr. G. M. Mitford, chairman ; Mr. T. Macffarlane, Chairman of the Urafton Road Highway District Board ; Mr. Barnes, Chairman of the Karangahape Highway District Board; and Mr. Morgan, Chairman of the Newmarket Highway District Board. The secretary, Mr. Brown, read the minutes of last meeting, which were confirmed. Mr. Smith's Application.—Mr. Smith had applied at the last meeting of the board for permission to cut down a willow tree growing in the Domain, but which projected over his property, overshadowing and injuring hia fruit trees. The chairman and Air. J. B. Kussell, had been requested >m visit the place and report.—The Chairmau now stated that he had visited the place, and there M-as no doubt the tree in quesl.ion was injuring Mr. Smith's fruit trees.— A. discussion then arose as to whether the tret! should be cutdown altogether, or only that portion of it which projected over Mr. Smith's property. The latter course was adopted, and it was decided to permit Mr. Sraitb, with the assistance of the ranger, and under his supervision, to cut down the projecting or overhanging portion of the tree. Stanley-strew Drainage. — A. letter was received from the Town Clerk, intimating that a conference of the public bodies interested in the qu?ation of the drainage of Stanley-street wan to be held, and requesting the board to appoint two delegates. The question, whether the appointment of delegates would commit the board to the proposed scheme or entail on them any expense, was discussed ; aud finally, on the motion of Mr. Barnes, the chairman and Mr. Macffarlane were appointed delegates. 1 he Fireworks Nuisance.—The ranger, in his report, drew attention to the danger of causing i fire in the Domain through boys letting off crackers, as had been done at the recent fete, where crackers were sold on the ground. He had, aa fur as he could, prevented them being let off. It was agreed that the action of the ranger be appioved, and that he be instructed to prevent the using of fireworks in the Domain. The Pond Koad.—The ranger also drew attention to the absolute necessity for widening and raising the road by the ponds at the present season, so that it might have time to harden before winter set in. All the members agreed as to the necessity for the work, but as the funds of the board were very low, it was a serious consideration as to whether they could afford to carry it out. After some conversation, however, it was decidod to instruct the ranger to proceed with it. Accounts.—Current accounts were passed for payment and the cheques signed, after which the meeting terminated.
