FLOODS AT CHRISTCHURCH.
» [BT TF'EGKAPH, PiSESS ASSOCIATION.] Christcht/kch, Saturday. It was raining heavily last night, and has be<m to-day. Some streets east- and south have been flooded, through the Waimakariri rising this morning. No damage has been done to the North lines, 53 reported, np to the arrival of the last train. Mr. Lowe, R.E., and a number of men, hare been watching the Hue during iHa di\y. £-'„ais vd a fi'v.xLed state ag&in, and this raoraiag the whole towns \ip appeared one sheet of water. At j-JtaLeau'is Hotel, the water aJ wis up to tho verandah steps, and was still rising. BuWa store was only to be approached by wading through IS feet of water. Several passengers by the morning train who wished to cross were obliged to return, as the river was unfordable. The Glenmark mails got over through the effort of Mr. Moore's famous river horse Jerry. All the river* in the northern districts are rising.
