HORRIBLE ZULU ATROCITIES.
The liiineburg correspondent of the Natal Mercury says :—I have just time to inform you that a pretty large Zulu force has come across the Ponoolo and commenced their atrocious barbarities. These " brave " Zulu warriors passed by the fort and laager of Luneburg at a very safe distance, because they would have to encounter " men." The savage butchers pounced in thousands down upon single huts an houses-of our friendly natives and executed deeds of oraelty shocking to relate. They murdered old men, about 50 women, and a.% many helpless little boye and girls. On one place they threw seven little children deliberately into. the flames of burning hats, and in another place they showed their bravery and courage by inflicting 35 assegai wounds upon the body, of a young woman. This happened atja distancn of from, four to seven miles from the laager. The flrat report was received at the laager from one mho had escaped the frightful massacre. Patrols were immediately sent out, and they/ .succeeded in coming up with a lot of about 400 enemies, whom they attacked; killed about 20 and put the .-rest to flight, recapturing a good deal of' stock; but the .greater. part hid already escaped across the Tombe River.; and the .patrol had striot orders' not to go beyond that river. The garrison of Euneburg Is bnt small, -and cannot afford to yengace in any action beyond the regioii' j)f the district.
