DEATH OF MR. G. N. GAIR.

The news received by telegram state that Mr. G. N. Gair, manager of the National Bank branch at Tanranga, had committed suicide, was received in the most incredulous manner by those who were acquainted with that gentleman. Unfortunately further telegrams shewed that he had been found dead, shot through tho head, in the banking-office nnder circumstances which could leave no doubt as to the fact of his having himself fired tho fatal shot which ended his life. He was shot through the temple, and must have died instantaneously. No cause appears to exist for self-destruction on his part, and Mr. Gair's friends are puzzled to account for the act. His position in the bank has been a creditable and prosperous one. He wai highly-popular in Tauranga, and on inquiry we learn that there is nothing in his accounts which could lead to the impression that these had anything to do with the fatal act. He Was perfectly solvent, and his accounts straight. Mr. Gair, who was formerly in the Civil Service in Victoria, has been for over four years in the employ of the National Bank, and was for most part of the time engaged in the inspector's office, Wellington. From this he was transferred to the charge of the Tanranga branch of the bank, aad he enjoyed the full cuntidence of his superior officers.
